Derrick Locke was picked as the SEC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year in a vote of the conference’s coaches today for his strong season-long performance in the long jump. Locke’s personal best of 25-5.25 at the SEC Indoor Championship two weeks ago is UK’s best ever for a freshman and the second best long jump in the school’s history. It helped him place third in the event. Locke and the 19th ranked Wildcats will look to do even better at this weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Locke also ran for 521 yards and 5 touchdowns as a backup running back for this year’s Music City Bowl winning team.
